The Nature of Beauty:
Celebrity stylist David Babaii

By Kym Hinton

Celebrity stylist David Babaii grew up knowing the importance of seeing the beauty in the world around him and helping to ensure that beauty carried through to future generations. His mother, Hilda, a successful hairstylist who served as an assistant to the legendary Vidal Sassoon, ensured that Babaii and his sister were surrounded by animals growing up. Babaii recalls, “As babies, she would often place our pets in our cribs. She stressed the importance of respecting their lives and providing great care and love for animals. This family passion soon transformed into my cause.”

This cause remained at the forefront of Babaii’s mind throughout his initial career in the international hotel and resort industry to his training at the Vidal Sassoon Academies in both London and Los Angeles and on through the years he honed his craft and worked internationally with a number of designers, fashion magazines and the world’s top models. The products used in the beauty industry are notoriously chemical based and bad for the environment, and even while making a name for himself, Babaii remained focused on finding a way to join his family’s passion with his life’s work.

Over the years, Babaii has become known internationally as a force to be reckoned with in the hair care industry, and with celebrity clients ranging from Angelina Jolie to Nicole Kidman, it’s no wonder Vogue magazine christened him “King of the Curl.”

However, it’s Babaii’s first celebrity client—and one who still works with him currently—blonde beauty Kate Hudson, the daughter of famous actress Goldie Hawn, who shared his commitment to being environmentally conscious and serving as an animal rights advocate and teamed up with him to make their mutual cause a success. Babaii says, “During the years of my friendship with Kate, we often spoke about doing something for animals and creating products free of the beauty industry’s standard ‘dirty dozen.’”
It was through this desire that all-natural hair care line David Babaii for WildAid was born. Babaii says, “Through research and my friendships with Angelina Jolie and Eric Steinhauser, I learned about WildAid and their devotion to preserving wildlife and stopping their illegal trade. Eric is one of our original partners who introduced us to WildAid, while Angelina was a vital force in the lines concept.”

Hudson says, “I’m proud to be a partner with David Babaii and WildAid in bringing the first line of hair care products that support animal rights advocacy to the world’s attention. Our mission is to not only celebrate the remarkable beauty in nature but help sustain it.” The products in their line are free of sulfates, parabens and petrochemicals, and are not tested on animals. The range includes an exclusive blend of exotic natural and renewable ingredients, including cupuacu butter, volcanic ash and Polynesian white ginger.

Through this joint venture, Babaii and Hudson have used their celebrity influence to ensure that the world celebrates “the nature in beauty and the beauty in nature.” To that end, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of all David Babaii for WildAid products benefit WildAid, a global wildlife conservation organization.

The eco-friendly products in this line are very affordable (most are in the $25 range) and offer the ability to give back at the same time you ensure you look your best.
Babaii says, “We all know that looking good feels fantastic, but combining my two greatest passions—beauty and nature—makes it even better. As a result, David Babaii for WildAid products was born. Our mission is to help end the illegal wildlife trade and strengthen the number of threatened species. After all, animals bring compassion and tranquility to all life.”
